LJHCA Shares Tips on Hiring the Best HVAC Contractor

Hiring an expert and reliable heating and air conditioning contractor should be one of the priorities of any new home builder. After all HVAC will dictate the comfort level inside the home, and it will also represent a huge chunk in the energy expense inside a home.

For this reason the La Jolla HVAC Contractors Association (LJHCA) shared in its official website tips on hiring the best HVAC contractor. In their blog post, they mentioned that with the many contractors peddling their services nowadays it can be overwhelming to choose a contractor that could be the best for the project. Fortunately, according to the LJHCA there are tried and tested parameters that can lead any property owner or builder to the best HVAC Contractor.

LJHCA President Phil Thompson says one of the best ways to find the best HVAC Contractor is to ask for referrals from friends and neighbors who have recently hired an HVAC Contractor. “A friend will never recommend a contractor who may have done a lousy job, or who may have charged exorbitant fees and costs. And what is great about hiring someone referred by someone you know is you can see the finished product. You can ask about the customer experience. And if you are really that close, you can even ask about the cost,” enthuses Thompson.

Another useful tip according to Thompson is find at least three promising companies, then ask for a quote from these companies. “Do not hire the one with the lowest cost estimate though before carefully perusing their quotation. It could probably be a misunderstanding of your requirement hence the offer is too low, or it could also be possible that this is an unlicensed contractor. It is important that some leg work and background research be made, after all an HVAC System costs a huge system of money,” Thompson warns.

The Better Business Bureau has also come up with tips on hiring a licensed contractor. In its official website, it also created a way to check whether the license of the contractor is valid, and if there are pending complaints lodged against the contractor plus the status of such complaints.

They also mentioned that all agreements shall be made in writing to avoid possible problems later on. International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials

“Always get estimates in writing and never let any work begin without a written and signed contract. Do not be pressured into signing an agreement before you are ready and make sure you read and understand everything before signing. The contract should include contact information, start and complete dates, a detailed description of the exact work to be done, any material costs, payment arrangements, and warranty information. Specify who is to obtain necessary building permits and who is responsible for clean-up. Make sure all verbal promises are included in the contract. Ask how much work will be subcontracted and ask for information on the subcontractors.”
